Performs assigned inspections, evaluations, and complaint investigations for the Environmental Affairs Bureau of Environmental Health Services rabies and general sanitation programs. Develops advances knowledge and understanding of the rabies program.

Assist in all aspects of office business management and financial activities, including:
SCEIS data entry, procurement of supplies, equipment, utilities, contracts, services, and building repairs, serving as property custodian, maintaining inventory control of all supplies, furniture, and equipment, including vehicles, maintaining records related to transfer, disposal, or sale of any equipment, furniture, or supplies in accordance with agency policies.


Performs office administrative duties: Organize, develop, and implement procedures for recording, routine, sorting, distributing, and filing documentations, reports, correspondence, and administrative forms.

Performs personnel processes of the office: Coordinate PCAS activities, prepare and process new hire paperwork and other employee actions, maintain personnel records, assist staff in insurance, savings, retirement, and other related personnel processes

Serves as training coordinator: Register staff for training and maintain training documentation (Travel/Training requests, out-of-state travel requests, E-Learning, etc.)., attend E-Learning updates and keep staff abreast of training requirements and opportunities, performs as first line of contact to the public, consultants, developers, and other outside agencies, interview callers and visitors, and disburse complaints to appropriate staff for resolution; initiate responses and corrective actions when appropriate.

Research and provide information concerning Environmental Affairs questions, programs, and issues, enter complaints and reports into appropriate database, provide technical assistance and support to assigned program areas, review the workload and operating procedures of assigned program areas and assist with workload as needed, maintain up-to-date knowledge of the status of assigned program areas.


Receives environmental complaints, food complaints, animal bite reports, onsite wastewater applications/permits. etc., and logs them into the respective database, conduct record search, prepare reports and scan documents for OSWW, Food, and Rabies; dispatch information accordingly.


Performs other duties as required, which includes attending periodic staff meetings and training.


State Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and relevant program experience.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements: A high school diploma and experience in environmental health programs or radiological health. A bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering, or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience. A bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field; or associate degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and two (2) years of environmental health or related experience; or high and four (4) years of environmental health or related experience.

DHEC employees are required to participate in disaster preparedness during hazardous weather or declaration of an emergency. This involves being subject to duty and or call on a 24-hour basis.
You must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable transportation.
This position may require working early (before 8:30 am), evening (after 5:00 pm) and/or Saturday's.
Ability to lift 30 pounds and stand for long periods of time, if required.
