Primary Health Care (PHC) was founded in 1981 by Dr. Bery Engebretsen in Des Moines, IA. Our mission has remained unchanged since that time, to provide healthcare and supportive services to all, regardless of insurance, immigration status, or ability to pay.

Based on the needs of the communities we serve, PHC offers a spectrum of medical and dental services including family practice, behavioral health, HIV care and services, and pharmacy. PHC’s Homeless Support Services is the entry point for serving people experiencing homelessness in Polk County. Enabling services are available to help patients with benefits enrollment, case management, transportation, translation, and patient education. We currently have locations in Ames, Des Moines, & Marshalltown.


As a Radiologic Technologist, you will perform radiography of the human body for a diverse patient population in an outpatient clinic as ordered by a healthcare provider. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to welcome patients to a safe and inclusive environment and to engage patients in holistic care.

What You Will Do

  • Performs radiography of the human body as defined by IDPH permit to including but not limited to proper patient positioning, description of procedure to patient, manipulation of x-ray equipment and accurate processing of film along with a variety of routine and skilled radiology tests to patients of all ages. Operates and completes x-rays in compliance with regulatory agencies. Reports results and pertinent information to healthcare team members, facilitating interdisciplinary communications ensuring continuity of care/services.
  • Calculates exposure factors practicing protection and minimizing risk of radiation exposure to employees and patients in accordance with organizational policies and procedures; evaluates radiographs for technical quality.
  • Maintains patient radiology records, filing system, inventory of x-ray supplies, stocking of various areas, radiology equipment and clean work area. Maintains instruments and equipment in compliance with established maintenance protocols.
  • Performs radiological quality assurance procedures.
  • Assists in the education of residents and students during all levels of training.
  • Cross trains in referral area and other clinic office duties. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications You Need to Bring

  • Completion of AMA approved two-year program in radiologic technology and ARRT certified.
  • Knowledge of radiographic theory and techniques, clinic policies and procedures and specimen collection.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, electronic health record and other database systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Licenses & Certifications: State of Iowa permit to practice as a General Radiologic Technologist; current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers Certification*; current Mandatory Reporter Certification approved for the State of Iowa*.
  • Must be obtained with Introductory Period if not current
Preferred:

  • 2 years’ experience in a clinic setting.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Your experience and skills determine your base pay. The hiring range for this position is typically $20.58 - $25.72, though highly experienced candidates may earn up to $30.00 per hour. PHC also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
