The Center for Neighborhood Engaged Research & Science (Corners) at Northwestern University is seeking an entry-level Data Analyst to join our growing team. Corners conducts cutting-edge research into the ways that network and neighborhood science can be used to understand and address gun violence and other pressing social problems in Chicago and surrounding communities. Through an engaged approach, Corners works with community partners, civic organizations, and policymakers to build safer, healthier, and more equitable communities. The Data Analyst Associate (entry-level) will be a full-time employee of Northwestern University with full benefits. The data analyst Associate will work alongside other Corners’ team members in our shared office space on the Evanston campus of Northwestern University.

Utilizes multiple quantitative and qualitative datasets from a variety of sources and interprets results using various techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining. Assists in the design, development and implementation of business solutions partnering with clients to identify analytical requirements. Compiles reports, charts, and tables based on established statistical methods.

This is a two-year, term-limited position. Opportunity for renewal will be based on performance and available funding.

Specific Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

• Partners with clients to define requirements based on business objectives.

Administration

• Develop standardized templates, policies, and procedures for internal and external reporting.
• Designs and prepares documentation for qualitative and quantitative data analysis.

Development

• Completes a variety of statistical analyses using appropriate data and software
• Merges data from multiple sources in preparation for analysis.
• Interprets results of analyses for use in reports and presentations

Performance

• Completes data cleaning and organizes data files for analysis.
• Reviews data and Identifies quality issues

Miscellaneous

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong quantitative skills (coursework in econometrics and/or statistics) and familiarity of social scientific theories.
• Working knowledge of R or Python (please specify level of knowledge in application).
• Coursework on quasi-experimental methods for observational data.
• Coursework on spatial statistics, network analysis, and/or computational social science.
• Major in Sociology, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

• Experience with broader range of statistical techniques, e.g., structural equation modeling, latent class analysis, etc.
