Job Type: Full-time (Monday-Friday)

The Optometric Assistant is a very interesting and rewarding position as this staff member will assist the doctors during the eye examination process to:

Accurately and efficiently perform required preliminary and special testing while developing rapport and building trust with the patient.

Communicate clearly pertinent information discovered to the Doctor of Optometry so that the doctor is well informed upon entering the exam room.

Utilize exam room time efficiently with a constant listening ear to doctor communications while scribing specific, correctly spelled details with the intent that the plan of care written in the electronic medical records system is clearly understood by the reviewer.

Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms, bathrooms and the office as a whole from the perspective of the patient throughout the work day

Fax correspondence to co-managing doctors and specialists the same day patients are seen.

Work in partnership with both Opticians and Front Desk to continually foster a unified team and help meet office goals. This is accomplished by periodically asking “What can I help with?” prior to leaving for both lunch and end of day as well as throughout the day when time allows.

Open and close all preliminary, special testing and examination rooms checking for cleanliness. Shred, and collect both recycling and trash and dispose.

Perform other duties as assigned and utilize down time correctly.

• Strong Computer skills with the ability to learn specialized software.
• Ability to connect with patients/clientele to foster a relationship of trust and correctly advise them on their Rx options.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment; courteous and friendly demeanor.
• Ability to work effectively with various staff and diverse populations.
• Good organizational and time management skills to effectively juggle multiple priorities and time constraints.
• Ability to handle patients and practice information in a confidential manner.
