Job description

At the Northwest Regional Re-Entry Center (NWRRC), we are passionate about providing high-quality reintegration services to our residents, accountability, and protecting our community. We are a non-profit organization that began in 1964, and we operate a 150-plus bed residential re-entry center. We provide transitional services to those re-entering society from incarceration, for probation clients serving sanctions for violations of their supervised release, and for those under community restoration orders.

If you are looking for a rewarding and exciting opportunity to begin, continue or advance your career in criminal justice, corrections, social services, behavioral health, security or other related fields, then we would love to hear from you.

Position: We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Security Monitor to join our team. As a Security Monitor, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our staff, guests, and our residents, who are in the process of transitioning back into society. You will play a critical role in ensuring that our residents are held accountable for their actions while also treating them with dignity and respect.

Sample of responsibilities:

  • Monitor resident activities and behavior to ensure compliance with facility rules and regulations
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment
  • Conduct regular indoor and outdoor patrols, resident headcounts, and other searches of the facility, resident rooms and property, resident vehicles, resident phones, and residents themselves (pat downs)
  • Respond to emergencies and take appropriate action
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents and activities in the facility log
  • Ensure that the facility and grounds are clean and well-maintained at all times
  • Conduct observed urine collection and breathalyzer testing for residents and for contract clients
  • Control and dispense resident medications
  • Monitor electronic monitoring reports (GPS) for residents on home confinement
  • Control and track all entry into and out of the facility
  • Track resident accountability while on an approved absence from the facility
  • First line of contact for all law enforcement, U.S. Marshals, U.S. Probation Officers, Bureau of Prisons personnel, and all other related agencies

Compensation: $20.06 to $22.69 hourly

  • We have a Security Monitor I or II position. Relevant experience and/or education in this field of work will determine which position you qualify for, as well as your starting compensation. In addition, we provide a 3% pay differential for swing shift and a 5% pay differential for graveyard shift.

Shift: Staff must be available for any shift, all seven days of the week. New staff are assigned to a shift based on our current vacancy, and shift preference is based on seniority. Shifts are five 8-hour days on the assigned shift, with two consecutive days off. Day shift is 7am-3pm, swing is 3pm-11pm and graveyard is 11pm-7am.

Benefits: Employees working full-time will enjoy a competitive benefits package, including:

  • Paid time off: Security staff receive 24 days of PTO and vacation annually (that's 4.8 weeks!). Staff also accrue 12 days of sick time annually.
  • Healthcare: We pay 100% of the medical, vision and dental premiums for our staff. Insurance begins the first of the month following date of hire. We also pay for life insurance, AD&D insurance and long term disability.
  • Retirement: We have an employer-funded Simplified Employee Pension plan. You are eligible after 1 year and we will contribute 7% on a quarterly basis.
  • Tuition assistance: We will pay up to 50% of your tuition cost for a degree or certificate in a related field of study. You are eligible after 6 months.
  • Fitness: We will pay you up to $50 monthly for exercising/going to the gym.
  • Free Meal: You can enjoy a free meal from our cafeteria and we have an amazing food services program.
  • Other benefits and perks

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with college coursework or advanced training in criminal justice, corrections, behavioral sciences, or related.
  • Experience: Experience in a related field is preferred, but not required. Preference will be given to those with prior experience in corrections, social services, behavioral health, or other related fields. If you have the right attitude and motivation, we will train you.
  • Availability: Must be available to work any hours, any shift, any day of the week. Schedules are designed to be consistent for work-life balance.
  • Background Check: To be eligible for employment, you must be able to pass a state and federal background investigation.
  • Pre-Employment Drug Test: To be eligible for employment, you must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test. Under our federal contract, testing positive for marijuana/cannabis/THC is a disqualifier. Our contract requires random testing of current staff.
  • Driver's License: This position requires a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. Occasional job duties will include operating NWRRC vehicles.
