Job Summary:


The OR Tech is a non-licensed skilled and experienced person who is responsible under the direct supervision of a registered nurse for selected tasks in the administration of patient care within the C/S and /or operating room suite. Assists with surgical procedures in scrub duties. Assists in the orientation, training, and education of new personnel. Assists in maintaining safe and aseptic environment for all patients. Performs all related duties as assigned and directed. Facilitates the provision of individualized patient care. Reports to Registered Nurse on each case and the Clinical Manager and the Director of Surgical Services. This is a non-exempt position. FT Days and 12hr Shifts



QUALIFICATIONS

LICENSE/CERTIFICAITON:
  • Surgical Technologist Certification required
  • Current BLS certification


EDUCATION:
  • High School graduate required or equivalent, college prepared preferred
  • Completion of OR Tech course from an accredited school

EXPERIENCE:
  • One year training or experience in multiple specialties in acute care facility

SKILLS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Precept new employees and students
  • Able to perform 80% of procedures
  • Participate in an administrative approved projects with at least one of those projects being an employee identified project
  • Actively participates in preference card edits
  • Adheres to the standards of care and the policies and procedures of the Department of Surgery.
  • Provides effective communication to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Is knowable of specific interventions and required supplies and instruments.
  • Performs appropriate set-up of all instruments and supplies required.
  • Demonstrates appropriate patient preparation and draping techniques and operative field.
  • Prepares and passes instruments and supplies maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Maintains correct counts per policy.
  • Assists in maintenance and handling of specimens.
  • Is knowledgeable in specific patient population needs.
  • Understands concepts of appropriate decontamination handling of instruments and supplies.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge and professionalism for specialty area.
  • Complies with schedules.
