Summary: Supervises and coordinates activities of employees engaged in loading and unloading trucks, verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, and preparing items for shipment by performing the following duties:

Key Responsibilities:

• Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
• Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
• Determines space requirements and position of shipment in containers and trucks and lays out position of shipment.
• Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of state.
• Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded containers and truck doors.
• Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.
• Maintains vehicle maintenance report and schedules vehicles for service.
• Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
• Compiles records of unfilled orders.
• Posts weight and shipping charges.
• Prepares bills of lading.
• Issues written and oral instructions.
• Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
• Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
• Prepares composite reports from individual reports of subordinates.
• Adjusts errors and complaints.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions
• Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings
• Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Experience:

• Previous shipping and warehouse experience preferred.
• Previous experience operating forklifts including top pick styles
• Tractor trailer operating experience (CDL preferred but not required)

Education: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and depth perception.

Mental Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use customer service skills. The employee is frequently required to utilize interpersonal, teamwork and basic programming skills. The employee is occasionally required to use decision making skills, creativity, independent judgment, discretion, problem analysis, supervision and advanced programming skills.
