JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Speech and Language Pathology, serves as a member of the Pediatric Speech-Language Pathology team with primary responsibility for assessing and treating the special needs of children served by Easter Seals.

  • *Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited school of speech and language pathology.
  • Complete continuing education to maintain California state and ASHA licensure
  • One (1) year of paid experience as a staff level Speech and Language Therapist, preferred.
  • Experience in the evaluation and treatment of infants, toddlers and/or young children.

Working Knowledge of:

  • Anatomy, physiology, kinesiology.
  • Disabilities and related characteristics of individuals served by the agency.
  • Philosophies, objectives, and goals of a community service organization.
  • Effective interpersonal communication techniques.
  • Generally accepted treatment practices and skills.
  • Physical, social and cognitive needs of infants and toddlers with functional impairments.
  • Community resources, related agencies, and available services.
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and other regulations affecting the provision of speech therapy services.
  • Computer literacy skills

Language Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively read, analyze and interpret work and assessment results.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence, client assessments, and Individual Family Service Plan treatment plans.
  • Effectively be able to present information and respond to questions from supervisor, families, staff, regional center staff and the general public.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, families, clients, community agencies and other individuals encountered in the course of doing business.
  • Evaluate situations and take positive and effective actions.
  • Work effectively as a member of the Pediatric Services team.

  • Interpret and follow a variety of instructions provided verbally, in writing, and/or in diagram or schedule form.
  • *Licenses/Certifications
  • Position requires licensure with the California State Board as a Speech and Language
  • Hold and maintain a Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from the American Speech- Language Hearing Association (ASHA)
  • Position requires a valid California Driver's license, proof of insurance, and a driving record that meets the standards of the agency.
  • Position requires possession of current certificates in Adult CPR with AED and Infant/Child CPR from an approved provider.
  • Position requires possession of a current certificate in Basic First Aid from an approved provider.
  • Position requires current fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice and FBI.
  • Position requires pre-placement physical and back assessment.
  • Position requires proof of negative TB test within the past twelve (12) months.

*Direct Services:
*

  • Serve as a member of the Pediatric Services team.
  • Conducts comprehensive Speech Therapy assessments with emphasis on individual therapy to establish functional communication skills.
  • Plans, monitors, and provides direct therapy or consultation services for an assigned caseload of children in the Pediatric program in various settings, including but not limited to schools, home, and Easter Seals clinics
  • Consults with and assists therapy staff, family members, and care providers in the implementation of speech therapy components of the Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP), Individual Education Plan (IEP), and/or plan of care provided through insurance payors.
  • Collaborates with agency staff, families, physicians, and other therapy staff regarding significant therapy issues and concerns.
  • Provides for the safety and well-being of each client served.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communications and working relationships with parents, care providers, and other professionals.
  • Maintains accurate and timely therapy records, case files, and other reports as needed.
  • Comply with privacy laws and requirements under HIPAA regulations and understand the consequences of non-compliance.
  • Follow all safety procedures as outlined by the Injury, Illness and Prevention Program (IIPP) Safety Manual and understand the consequences of non-compliance.
  • Provide exceptional customer services, both internally and externally.
  • Supervise CF-RPE, SLPA, students, and volunteers as assigned.

Meetings and Documentation:

  • Attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings.
  • Attend and participate in Case Review meetings and other meetings as assigned.
  • Record client sessions, responses, and progress on a daily basis using the required format.
  • Prepare and submit all reports and related documentation as assigned in a timely manner

Case Management Services:

  • Coordinate speech therapy services received by clients.
  • Assist Easter Seals staff members and staff from other agencies to understand problems that relate to the at-risk conditions, delays and or disabilities demonstrated by pediatric client

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
