Job description
Under minimal supervision, develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan and under the general direction of the principal investigator. Perform scientific investigative research and participates in carrying out research objectives. Keeps abreast of new techniques and reviews literature in the field pertinent to the area of research.
Conduct experiments and collects and analyze data using various degrees of statistical methodology. Train and supervise other lab members in laboratory techniques and equipment operations. Ensure compliance with animal care and occupational safety regulations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Report to PhD or MD researcher for the purpose of participating in specific experimental, scientific protocols.
- Work independently to develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan and under the general direction of the principal investigator.
- Develop research methodologies within the parameters of experimental protocols and research objectives to allow quantitative and qualitative evaluations and interpretation of data obtained.
- Work independently on data collection and analysis of research results.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university. Scientific discipline appropriate to the research lab. A Master’s degree in an appropriate field of Science could be utilized in this position.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of laboratory research experience, preferably as a Research Assistant in the scientific field pertinent to the area of research conducted. A Master’s degree can substitute for the years of research experience, if the degree is appropriate to the area of research conducted.
- Requires a working knowledge of statistics, computer applications and research methodologies. Familiarity with computer programming may be helpful.
- Highly motivated and organized.
- A demonstrated ability to learn new methodology.
- Requires manual dexterity to operate complex equipment.
