Job purpose

Working under the supervision of the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for the general accounting function of D. Wheatley Enterprises, INC. (DWE) and Special Projects Operations (SPO) including maintaining financial records, reports, and general ledgers and preparing and analyzing budgets. The position is primarily responsible to perform these duties in an accurate, timely and compliant manner.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Examine accounting records, including financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards defined within accounting best practices and the company requirements
  • Review records of accounts and prepare journal entries into proper accounts
  • Complete ledger operations in a timely and accurate manner
  • Perform monthly closings and preparation of monthly financial statements for management review
  • Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts monthly
  • Compile monthly financial reports for management review
  • Prepare financial analysis as requested pursuant to compliance requirements and information as provided
  • Collaborate with team members to prepare year-end closings
  • Coordinate with staff members responsible for transactions to ensure accuracy of accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Assist with payroll administration on a regular basis and serve as backup to payroll processing as necessary
  • Perform regular account and bank reconciliations to maintain accurately and up-to-date records
  • Review and process expense reports that have been provided by Accounts Payable
  • Collaborates in the preparation and coordination of the annual or other audit processes
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures
  • Other duties as requested

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 2-5 years experience in general accounting at the Staff Accountant level
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Ablility to effectively manage multiple priorities & projects in a professional manner
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in a collaborative manner with management and staff members
  • Government contracting experience preferred
  • Manufacturing experience preferred

Working Conditions

The Staff Accountant operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This position occasionally is required to walk through the manufacturing floor. Incumbent should abide by all safety regulations.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
