SALARY


The minimum salary is $61,603.77 annually.
This position is exempt and is not eligible for overtime; however, the city has a compensatory time leave
program for employees that grants leave time for hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this classification is to perform and oversee skilled work including installations, upgrades, design and maintenance of new and existing signalized intersections and other traffic related items.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or the hard sciences such as engineering, chemistry, geology, biology, mathematics, or physics or a Master's degree in Liberal Arts or Business
  • Four (4) years of related experience
  • Additional years of related education may substitute for years of experience
  • Additional years of related experience may substitute for years of education
  • Partial years of credit may be granted for every 15 credit hours of education in an unrelated field

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages all signal construction, upgrades, maintenance and repair work performed by staff and by contract on signalized intersections and other traffic control devices.
  • Provides technical assistance, oversees and inspects traffic and communication devices installed by staff and contractors
  • Maintains traffic signals through troubleshooting and repairs and responds to traffic signal malfunctions before and after normal working hours
  • Monitors division goals/objectives gathering and analyzing data, preparing contracts, submit cost estimates, monthly and yearly reports for division and risk management in law department
  • Investigates accidents including determining losses, processing claims, and maintaining databases to manage the insurance recovery program
  • Performs related work as assigned

SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

  • Traffic Signal Level II Certification through the International Municipal Signal Association and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
  • IMSA inspector certification is required within one year from date of hire
  • Valid Driver’s License.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • All positions require drug testing and background check before employment and may require a post-job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21-14(b), 22-13 and 23-16.
  • Must be available for on call work 24/7 as scheduled

EXAMINATION
