Summary

The Michigan Center for Translational Pathology (MCTP) is seeking an Applications Systems Analysts/Programmer Associate to work with our functional and clinical genomics research groups. Under direct supervision, assists in research and fact-finding to develop or modify information systems. Assists in preparing detailed specifications from which programs will be written. Designs, codes, tests, debugs, documents, and maintains those programs.

Required Qualifications*

The ideal candidate should hold a degree in bioinformatics, computer science, biophysics, or have equivalent work experience. The successful candidate should have the ability to multi-task, prioritize efforts, and collaboratively-develop ideas in a fast-paced environment.

  • 1-3 years of experience in the analysis of large real data sets.
  • Experience in scripting in one or more of R, Python or Perl
  • Fluency in understanding code written in multiple languages including Bash, R, Python, C++.
  • Practical experience in the application of statistical techniques.
  • 1-3 years experience implementing machine learning, deep learning and artificial intelligence in the analysis of real-word data sets
  • Experience in working on Unix/Linux systems (shell scripting, basic system administration)

Desired Qualifications*

  • Masters degree or PhD in information technology or computer science
  • Experience in cloud computing (GCE or AWS)
  • Experience building web applications, web services, and user interfaces using standard software development tools: relational databases, version control systems, front-end Javascript.
  • A strong publication record.
  • Experience with GPU accelerated computing

Additional Information

MCTP employs genomic, proteomic, and bioinformatic approaches on clinical bio-specimens to identify novel cancer biomarkers and therapeutic targets. The mission of the Center is to facilitate the discovery, validation, and implementation of candidate target genes/proteins in cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy. The Center employs a multi-disciplinary approach, engaging talent from diverse disciplines ranging from medicine, pathology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, engineering, cytogenetics, and molecular therapeutics.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
