Position Summary: The Assistant Coach is expected to affirm and model the Christ-centered mission of Warner University and the Athletic Department. The assistant coach must be committed to the Lordship of Christ, a vibrant Jesus Christ-follower who cultivates a Christ-centered lifestyle that is contagious.

The Assistant Cheer Coach reports to the Head Cheerleading Coach and the Athletic Director. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to overseeing practices, games, appearances, and other Warner Cheer and Warner Athletic functions. The incumbent will also support program functions including tryouts, travel opportunities, fundraising efforts, and gameday support for Warner Athletics. This position functions as a secondary decision maker to the Head Coach and at times supports athletes in various situations related to health, safety, academics, professionalism, and communication.

Responsibilities:

· Support the mission and core values of Warner University, Student Life, and the Athletic Department

· Personally live out a spiritual formation plan with a focus on Jesus, for all members of the coaching staff and student-athletes

· Conduct the program in accordance with NAIA, NCCAA and The Sun Conference regulations - staying current concerning sport policies, rule changes, training techniques, and strategies

· Encourage and uphold the NAIA Champions of Character Core Values and enforce appropriate behavior during all team practices, contests, and any other team related activities

· Coaching responsibilities as assigned by the head coach, to include; instructing students on sport fundamentals, setting goals, setting clear expectations, and providing feedback to students

· Assist in the organization, preparation, and coaching of the Warner Cheer Team to include:

o attendance at all practices and games

o attendance at try-outs

o Warner Campus functions where cheer is representing the University

o Implement the basic principles and policies of the athletic governing bodies (NCCAA/ NAIA) and Warner University

· Assist in monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes to ensure they are meeting academic course requirements and providing guidance and instruction to students to ensure success

· Assist in monitoring the conduct of the student-athletes and teaching athletes to work together

· Assist in teaching athletes on strength and conditioning and provide general instruction of the team

· Assist in fundraising planning, organizing and team efforts

· Responsibility to meet on a regular basis with the head coach concerning all areas of instruction, practices and games

· Directly responsible to the head coach for all related assignments concerning the cheer program

· Ensure safety and well-being of student-athletes

· Serve as an effective role model for college-age students

· Collaborate effectively with other Athletic department team members

· Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

· Provide a positive atmosphere that promotes a sense of community and fairness, organization, commitment, motivation, and accomplishment.

Qualifications:

● Supportive of Warner’s mission, vision and core values, commitment to a Christian lifestyle, and demonstration of character in keeping with biblical models.

● Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent combination of training and experience in cheerleading.

● Able to work outside (hot or cold) and be exposed to elements (such as rain, possibly snow, dirt, fumes, and loud noises).

● Coaching licenses, certifications (USA Cheer Safety), and badges preferred.

Working Relationships: The Assistant Cheer Coach is a member of the Athletics Department and reports to the Head Cheer Coach, with direct oversight by the Athletic Director.

Work Schedule: Work schedule varies greatly depending on game schedules. Modified weekly hours based on game schedule; summer hours required.
