    Summary
    Serves as a career information and/or employability skills resource to students, counselors, teachers and the community. Promotes and maintains a viable career center, selects and distributes career information to students and staff. Presents career information and models employability skills to classes. Coordinates and implements career guidance plan and orients new teachers and counselors to the career guidance center.

    Certificates, Licenses & Registrations
    • Possession of current, valid licensing or certification as it applies to this position
    • Certification in the appropriate level and subject is required for teachers
    • Dual or multiple certifications for teachers is preferred

    Copies of an active Michigan Teaching Certificate and college transcripts are required with the application packet. Original certificate and certified transcripts are required prior to being hired.

    Education & Experience
    • Bachelor's degree and two years work experience
    • Proof of COVID vaccination required

    Job Responsibilities
    • Serve as advisor and positive public relations advocate for the career guidance program
    • Coordinate schedules and assists counselors with structured career guidance program
    • Assist the teacher in the instruction of students, staff and community in the use of Career Resource Center materials
    • Serve as a resource to staff and community
    • Schedule career activities in cooperation with teachers and counselors
    • Collaborate with counselors in using career related assessment instruments (EDP's, etc.) and participate with counselors in discussion of career opportunities
    • Research careers with small groups of students in career center
    • Discuss current labor market information and job hunting tips with students and staff
    • Prepare reports concerning center use.
    • Develop a building-wide system of communication regarding scholarships, college visits, summer programs, employment opportunities and standardized testing
    • Assist with testing, (Standardized testing)
    • Develop and sustain mini college fair
    • Work closely and collaborate with counseling department and attend counseling meetings
    • Schedule, advertise, and facilitate over 100 college admissions offices visits each fall
    • Correspond with colleges and universities to obtain materials necessary for students to make their college decisions
    • Make presentations to PTSO and other parent groups
    • Set up career presentations in the Career Center and classrooms
    • Counsel students individually about career and college decisions
    • Have a good working knowledge of the computer including various word processing programs, district data programs, district data program, college application processes and research in college and scholarship information
    • Other duties as assigned
    This is a full time position requiring regular and reliable attendance on site to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students, and administrators

    Reasoning Ability
    • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form
    • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

    • Work with parents and children of diverse cultural backgrounds
    • Develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community
    • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies

The employee is directly responsible for safety, well being, or work output of other people.
    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as reading handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position required the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with public and staff.
