About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY
Join a dynamic, flexible group working to enhance teaching, learning, and student experiences at Northeastern through data analytics and research. The Research, Assessment, and Data Analytics group is a small, agile, flexible team focused on supporting Educational Innovation and advancing our understanding of student experiences through research and data analytics. We work on projects such as supporting multi-method research, big-data analytics and reporting across university data systems, and modeling data to help forecast relevant behaviors and outcomes.
We seek a seasoned data analyst to provide data-informed decision-making support across the Educational Innovation organization. The ideal candidate will have expertise in data analysis, data visualization and dashboard development, extracting insights from complex university data systems, and a desire to continue enhancing their skill set with emerging tools and new analytics approaches. A focus on stakeholder collaboration, flexibility, and a love of exploring creative approaches to visualization and analytics are necessary to thrive in this role.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate degree or equivalent work experience in the areas of data science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related fields.
  • 2+ years of relevant quantitative and qualitative research and analytics experience in an academic institution, industry research environment, or research computing team.
  • Strong and diversified experience in leading data analysis projects, particularly, synthesizing large and complex data sets into actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with R and/or Python (e.g., NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, Jupyter).
  • Proficiency with various database concepts (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, GraphDB).
  • Proficiency in the use of visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI)
  • Proficiency in ETL and ELT concepts related to data transformation.
  • Proficiency with GitHub and code reviews, plus an interest in sharing data science code and insights through version-control platforms.
  • Exposure to cloud-based big data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery).
  • Exposure to cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Experience or exposure to fundamental concepts of data engineering.
  • Demonstrable interest in and experience with educational research in higher education.
  • Desire to work on a goal-focused agile team.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve to loosely defined problems and communicate techniques and results to stakeholders.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and remain current in developing trends in data science.
  • Demonstrated strong writing skills with an ability to document and communicate solutions to stakeholders.
  • Desire for continuous self-improvement and maintenance of skills through training, workshops, and/or conferences.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work streams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Teamwork and collaboration in a professional setting.
