Data Analytics Scientist

KBR’s Science and Space division is seeking a Data Analytics Scientist to support our Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC) at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) Center (http://eros.usgs.gov/) near Sioux Falls, SD (http://www.siouxfalls.org).

This position relies on expertise in data modeling and analytics to support a research program aimed at performing broad-area search for natural and anthropogenic events and characterizing their extent and progression in time and space by automating the quantitative analysis of space-based imagery. This role is auxiliary to a U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) partnership with the Federal Office of the Director of National Intelligence and enhances existing USGS abilities to test and evaluate the radiometric and geometric performance of externally developed data harmonization prototypes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide data analysis expertise for evaluation of data harmonization results

  • Communicate analysis findings to team members and customers

  • Participate in collaborative technical exchanges with the broader inter-agency team

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Candidates must meet the requirements listed below to be considered for this position; please note required items on your resume.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain credentials for facility access and user accounts.

  • Must have a 3-year residency in the United States

  • Education: Advanced Degree or equivalent experience in data science, statistics, computer science, machine learning, or related field

Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.

  • Years of Experience: Must have minimum 0-5 years of recent and related work experience data analytics

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, etc.

  • Competence with statistical analysis and data visualization

  • Facility to grasp complex topics

  • Ability to effectively communicate with a range of audiences

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with Cloud-based data processing, visualization, and analysis

  • Proficiency with open-source code repositories and configuration management practices such as GitLab

  • Acquaintance with collaboration software such as Jira, Confluence, etc. for task management and reporting

  • Familiarity with remote sensing data such as from Landsat, Sentinel-2, Worldview

  • Exposure to land cover science or geography

WORK LOCATION

This position supports a team anchored in Sioux Falls, SD and is offered in either a hybrid remote/onsite or a fully remote work environment. Travel may be required to support team meetings.
