Position Summary

The University of New Mexico VP Office for Institutional Support Services (ISS) seeking an experienced leader to fill the position of Director, Parking & Transportation Services. Parking & Transportation Services (PATS) is a self-funded auxiliary department within UNM that provides transportation services to over 44,000 students, staff, and faculty coming to the UNM Albuquerque campus on a regular basis, and over 77,000 people traveling to the University-area on a regular basis, our system is designed to provide reliable and orderly access to the campus. It is PATS’ responsibility to support the University's education, research and service missions by providing access to key programs for faculty, staff, students and visitors through a variety of transportation services that consider the needs of each customer. This responsibility includes managing approximately 14,000 parking spaces, facilitating the movement of 1.7 million passengers annually from nearby parking lots onto campus and around campus, and providing a full range of transportation choices through the provision of the alternative transportation programs.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Support Services, the Director provides expertise, vision and strategic leadership to a department comprised of over 80 employees. This position serves as a subject matter expert to develop, implement, and direct the services PATS provides, while maintaining passenger and staff safety, and high-level customer service to the campus community. This position will be responsible for the parking operations and transportation across Main, South and HSC campuses, as well the allocation of daily, permitted, and event parking, parking enforcement, and the maintenance of surface parking and garages. This position is also responsible in assisting in the development of the Campus Master Plan related to parking, in maintaining progress towards institutional 2040 Goals.

The successful candidate will possess thorough knowledge of parking and transportation operations, program and activities. They will have strong leadership and organizational development skills to develop and align staff, as well as operational capabilities and capacities. The qualified candidate will also have knowledge of daily operations of the unit, ensuring compliance with department, University, state and federal laws, polices and regulations. They will have experience in the development of annual budgets, as well as in strategic and capital planning. The candidate must also possess strong written and verbal communication skills, and able to represent the University to various institutional divisions, as well as externally agencies, surrounding University community, students, staff and general public

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters (or Bachelors) degree in business or public administration, transportation or related field
  • Ability to build strategic working relationships and communicate effectively within a diverse work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including experience in building partnerships and collaborations across various campus and community stakeholders
  • 10 or more years' experience in the supervision of a large workforce and managing labor relations in a union environment.
  • At least five years of previous experience with operating platforms and parking management software such as T2 Flex, Amano McGann, and Park Mobile
  • Previous leadership experience with public, university and/or medical center parking and transportation operations.
  • Demonstrated competency in interpreting, communicating and developing policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet critical deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
  • Experience managing multi-million dollar budget, and analyzing budgets pertaining to parking and transportation
