Job description

Join Cartwheel to help tackle the student mental health crisis.

Kids spend most of their days in the classroom. And teachers and staff, who play a vital role in their development, are often the first to notice when something is off. But with 1 in 5 young people struggling with mental health, schools are getting crushed by a downward spiral in student crises and staff burnout.

With large increases in federal funding for schools and the rise of telehealth, schools are reimagining what mental health support can look like.

Cartwheel is an early-stage startup building technology-enabled mental health services that put schools at the center. We see our role as supporting on-campus counselors, psychologists, and school social workers who see kids every day. Instead of going around them, we collaborate with them. This means:

  • Earlier intervention
  • Higher student and family engagement in care
  • Better coordination among the trusted adults in a student’s life

Kids shouldn't just aspire to get out of bed and drag themselves to class. They should be able to experience joy. They deserve to envision and build a life they’re excited to live. If you join Cartwheel, you’ll help make this vision a reality for millions of students across the country. We’re backed by top investors including General Catalyst, BoxGroup, and Able Partners, and we're looking for scrappy, mission-driven teammates to join our team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Since our founding last spring, we’ve grown to serve more than a dozen school districts in our home state of Massachusetts, providing care to hundreds of students and families. This upcoming school year, we’ll be working with several dozen districts across 3-5 states, providing care to thousands of students and families.

As Partnerships Director, you’ll work with the CEO to identify new potential school district partners, build trusting relationships with senior administrators, and lead the partnership development process from initial outreach to successful launch. In doing so, you’ll help lay the foundation for Cartwheel to become the trusted mental health partner for schools nationwide.

WHO YOU ARE

  • You have experience as an educator, school administrator, counselor, or clinician
  • You’re an excellent communicator with a talent for quickly building trusting relationships
  • You can juggle many priorities, create your own structure, wrangle stakeholders, make decisions with imperfect information, and flex between across strategy and tactics
  • You want to work at a high velocity in a rapidly-growing startup
  • You’re a go-getter and find creative ways to overcome roadblocks
  • You’re open minded and can ask and take tough questions with grace
  • You’re energetic, optimistic, resilient, and empathetic

Please apply even if you don't meet all of the criteria. If your past experience doesn’t perfectly match the job description, we’d still love to hear from you. You may be a great fit!

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Develop a 12-month growth strategy with the CEO, setting ambitious targets and developing a month-by-month workplan for conducting outreach, cultivating leads, winning new school district contracts, and successfully launching services.
  • Identify specific school districts, charter management organizations, and independent schools that are a possible fit for Cartwheel.
  • Conduct outreach to these potential partners, building relationships with superintendents and other administrators. Understand their needs and current resources and propose partnerships where Cartwheel can make an impact.
  • Shepherd districts through the proposal and contracting process. Lead discussions on contract size, pricing, and timeline, and pulling in teammates as needed (e.g., speaking to clinical questions, addressing legal contracting considerations).
  • Facilitate partnership launch by project managing district leadership and Cartwheel’s clinical leadership team. Lead planning meetings, support Cartwheel’s COO on contracting, and help Cartwheel’s clinical leadership launch the partnership.
  • In collaboration with the CEO and clinical leadership, serve as a trusted partner to district leadership during implementation and beyond.

LOCATION: Remote with quarterly in-person team retreats and co-locating as needed in Boston or NYC, especially as we get to know each other.

START DATE: ASAP (latest by July 1)

COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $125,000. We’ll consider a higher band and commission-based incentives depending on the candidate.

  • 3 full weeks of PTO plus federal holidays
  • Meaningful equity ownership stake in Cartwheel
