POSITION SUMMARY

A leading global manufacturing company is seeking an organized and motivated Director of Global Logistics leader to support our growing team. Reporting to the VP Global Supply Chain, the Director of Global Logistics will manage global transportation partnerships and initiatives for ground, ocean, and air modes within company's domestic and international supply chain. Responsibilities include managing inbound and outbound logistics, global logistics partner performance, leading strategic alliances with freight partners, optimize freight service provider selection and procurement process, and identifying areas of opportunity within the domestic and global transportation network. This position is instrumental in optimizing logistics network across all channels, geographies, supporting a fast, efficient, and cost-effective global supply chain.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement the vision and network strategy for future global logistics that delivers a truly world-class customer experience.
  • Work closely with Commercial, Supply Chain and Operations leadership to implement combined strategies for logistics and fulfillment operations.
  • Work closely with freight brokerage firm(s) to coordinate TL and LTL transportation on inbound, inter-company and outbound shipments, freight optimization, invoicing, audit and payments.
  • Monitor supplier compliance, adherence, conformance to use of preferred lanes, inbound carrier delivery performance while improving supply chain efficiency and sustainability.
  • Utilize KPI metrics and relevant logistics industry trend indicators to track, monitor and adjust strategic and tactical objectives to balance, enhance service levels, quality and reduce cost.
  • Inspire, lead, direct, supervise and coach global logistics team members, develop and mentor, communicate clear performance goals, expectations and provide training as necessary.
  • Facilitate, assist logistics team to leverage online portal system(s) to track daily, weekly, monthly performance, status of shipments, order details, projected delivery information, monitor compliance to logistics routing guides.
  • Lead all aspects of daily management and tracking of in-transit shipments from origin to destination including booking, document preparation (bill of lading, invoicing, certificate of origin, export declaration), follow-up, root cause analysis on issues and tracking delivery performance.
  • Manage logistics budgets and carrier compliance with company policies, procedures, and performance metrics.
  • Manage communications with brokerage partner(s) and/or carriers including rate negotiation, contracting, on-time service expectations, and quarterly business reviews.
  • Develop, refine automated reporting to analyze and manage current transportation spend and carrier performance.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to optimize routing, maximize performance, and minimize cost.
  • Resolve inquiries from internal functional stakeholders and external suppliers, customers regarding shipment issues, carrier services, and transportation strategy.
  • Lead efforts to ensure customer compliance with freight terms & conditions, driving accountability for customer-driven freight arrangement for product pickup.
  • Ensure product storage costs, extraneous shipping/handling fees, time & materials outside of terms & conditions are appropriately allocated to customer.
  • Stay current with industry best practices in logistics, operations, and transportation solutions to ensure regulatory compliance and drive innovation.
  • Manage international shipments working with external partners, coordinating container lines, forwarding, port operations, international documentation and drayage partners.
  • Resolve any issues, problems or complaints with a sense of urgency.
  • Meet cost, productivity, shipment accuracy and timeliness targets.
  • Maintain actionable performance metrics and frequently analyze data to assess opportunities for improvement and implement those initiatives effectively.
  • As appropriate assist audit and payables brokerage partner by approving freight invoices outside of current pricing agreements.
  • Report monthly variances to logistics forecast amounts.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience in global logistics operations
  • Experience working with global freight forwarding and transportation supply chain partners
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing new 3PL/carrier arrangements, handling third-party relations, and influencing cost and performance objectives
  • Experience leading global trade compliance activities and knowledge of import/export guidelines
  • Detailed understanding of international, heavyweight, parcel, ground, air, and ocean logistics operations
  • Knowledge of logistics related software and technology systems such as TMS, Shipping Systems etc.
  • Track record of implementing high-value, highly strategic logistics operations and projects and building new solutions from the bottom-up
  • Strong data analytics skills with ability to lead and drive complex analysis and provide specific guidance to analysts
  • Strong social skills with an ability to build and grow relationships
  • Superior verbal, presentation, and written communication skills
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Supply Chain, Logistics, Trade / Commerce, or related discipline, Master's degree a plus
  • 7-10 years of experience as a Logistics or Distribution leader
  • Experience in domestic and international transportation/logistics
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage direct and/or indirect staff
  • Ability to influence team/stakeholders on optimal Logistics strategy
  • Past P&L oversight and budget for multi-modal transportation solutions
  • Proficient in Logistics rate schedules across all transport modes
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects
  • Experience managing ~$10M+ in freight spend
  • Membership in Logistics professional organization a plus
  • Must be able to effectively work independently, be well organized, and detail oriented
  • Must be able to interface with others in a professional manner
  • Ability to travel 20% to 30%
