The Director of Innovation and Special Projects is responsible for the development and implementation of complex and cross-functional projects that are being launched through the Brookline Center’s new Innovation Institute. The Director helps ensure that the vision for these solutions comes to life by moving innovation projects from ideation through initial proof of concept and pilot testing. The Director will be a part of the Innovation Institute and Center’s leadership teams and will assist in the design and development of the institute helping transform the Brookline Center into a hub of innovation and a nationally recognized leader in the community mental health field.

Role Description:

This role acts as an innovation agent performing various functions to set the direction for new policy initiatives while collaborating with innovators and key stakeholders throughout the Center and the community to ensure successful development and execution of innovation initiatives, policies and programs. The role will report to the Center’s CEO.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as key member of Center’s inaugural Innovation Institute Leadership Team.
  • Responsible for nimbly advancing innovation initiatives through the innovation life cycle which includes design, development, evaluation, launch and scaling of initiatives.
  • Perform as an entrepreneur empowered to proactively identify innovative policy initiatives and programs that advance the Center’s vision, address identified opportunities or challenges, and form and lead teams that develop these innovations or programs.
  • In collaboration with Center and Institute management teams manage, supervise, coordinate and ensure execution of the Center’s strategic plan and defined goals.
  • Plan, direct, review goals of the Institute, monitor the accomplishment of the goals and audit organizational performance towards those goals.
  • Coordinate with Communications Department on the communication and messaging of major partnerships and new innovative programs.
  • Flexible and available for new situations in which you may be assigned a role.

Characteristics:

  • Strong commitment to innovation and mental health and 10+ years of leadership experience in the fields of technology, nonprofits, community organizing, or business administration.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizational development, strategic planning, and/or product development.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively design and deploy innovative initiatives, programs or solutions that are effective and generate results.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and establish and manage a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work closely with a variety of stakeholder groups including business, nonprofit, religious groups and community organizers.
  • Excellent communication, project planning and management skills with an inclusive approach to team facilitation
  • Clinical experience in providing mental health care preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of MA mental health law and guidelines/regulations preferred.
