JOB TITLE: Grant Writer

REPORTS TO: Director of Business and Operations, or Designee

JOB OR POSITION SUMMARY:
The Grant Writer will support the work of the Riverview School District with a focus in acquisition, research, development, and preparation of grant applications and proposals for public and private funding sources for the school district. The writer will work with minimum direction within a framework of established procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and prepare grant applications and proposals for public and private funding sources; establish and maintain District procedures and policies to assure proper review and approval of grant applications by the Superintendent, Business and Operations, Department of Teaching and Learning and various other departments
  • Prepare and disseminate materials concerning available grants, awards and related programs for staff and leadership
  • Serve as technical resource for preparing, writing, and submitting grants for staff; respond to inquiries and provide information concerning the preparation of grant applications; edit and proofread grant applications to be submitted for consideration
  • Compile information and prepare and maintain records related to grant applications, district demographics and funding activities
  • Collaborate with leadership in research and coordinating financial resources; assist budget staff with developing the grant application budget
  • Perform related duties or projects, as assigned
  • Collaborate with community partners who provide supports and programs within our schools; Provide community partners with letters of support
  • Professionally and positively interact with students, staff, administrators, and the community
  • Comply with all district policies and the Code of Professional Conduct
  • Regular attendance (in person)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Business and Operations, or designee

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge and experience in successful grant research and writing
  • Knowledge and experience successfully soliciting local, regional, and national corporations/foundations and/or local, state and federal government entities in obtaining grants
  • Knowledge and experience with grant application, proposal preparation, technical writing, and federal and private funding sources
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of education grant writing, specifically K-12
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, project management skills and strong attention to detail
  • Experience, knowledge and understanding of applicable laws, code, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to track progress details and meet deadlines while working independently
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, especially grantors, foundations, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and with diverse audiences in a productive and positive way
  • Ability to represent the District as needed
  • Proficient in use of technology systems and applications, including Microsoft 365
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Ability to process information to make sound judgements and decisions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff and stakeholders
  • Skills and ability in organization, time management, and record keeping
  • Ability to maintain and model a consistently positive attitude
  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and work effectively under pressure
  • Such alternatives to the above qualification as the Superintendent or designee my find appropriate and acceptable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time. Ability to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal. Additional physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision. Occasionally required to attend evening/weekend meetings or activities.

LICENSING/CREDENTIAL AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, liberal arts, or related field
  • Three or more years of successful grant research and writing experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted that provides the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position
  • Bilingual fluency in reading, writing, and speaking another major language, preferred
  • Successful Washington State Patrol check and FBI Fingerprint Clearance Report and Disclosure Statement in accordance with state law
  • Disclosure Statement in accordance with state law
