- Provide electrical, high-voltage, collection system, and substation support to operating renewable generation facilities which include intermittent on-call support
- Participate in the engineering, design, and construction review processes including review of the collection system, substation, and transmission line designs
- Support new project commissioning, documentation support, and assist with project energization
- Review and continuously improve commissioning, maintenance, and standard operating procedures
- Review maintenance records and recommend corrective actions to ensure reliability and compliance with the applicable NERC standards
- Develop, review, and maintain work instructions for reactive and preventive maintenance activities
- Develop and maintain electrical troubleshooting guides for intelligent electronic device (IED) training
- Conduct event analysis of protection system operations to determine misoperation status in support of meeting FERC or NERC requirements. This includes the development, testing, and implementation of corrective operational plans for protection system misoperations
- Develop and submit NERC MIDAS reports
- Develop structured feedback sessions for all lessons learned with the project team to include misoperations, root cause analysis, and safety-related events
- Review and maintain the IED settings repository
- Review and update project documentation
- Responsible for maintaining compliance with NERC standards PRC-027 and validating and/or updating arc flash studies
- Develop and implement site betterment projects including preparation of scope documents, exhibits, budgets, schedules, and requests for proposals
- Interact closely with internal teams to ensure that project needs and objectives are met
- Lead or participate in project meetings and conference calls
- Interpret plans, specifications, drawings, and documents related to renewable generation facilities
- Participate in a due-diligence review of renewable generation facility electrical designs
- Assist with updating project documents that are NERC-related and act as subject matter expert during internal and external audits
- Perform additional duties as required
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- 5+ years of relevant technical experience
- Expert knowledge of medium- and high-voltage substation electrical equipment including relay protection systems, collection systems, transmission designs, and operations
- Experience with power generation or distribution event analysis preferred
- Experience with establishing HV field service preferred
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, Project software suites, and SEL Equipment
- Experience with substation relay and protection system testing and troubleshooting
- Experience with LOTO and OTO procedures
- Familiarity with the operation of capacitor banks, transformer load tap changers, circuit breakers, and motor/manually operated air disconnect switches
- Understanding of Microsoft products and/or complementing products. (Preferred)
- Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise. (Preferred).
- Ability to write operating procedures and strong problem-solving ability
- Ability to apply pertinent industry standards and codes including the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and ANSI (American National Standards Institute)
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver’s license
- Ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to multi-task in a complex and dynamic environment
- Ability to perform basic electrical mathematical calculations
- Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, drawings, and documents relating to engineering and construction including one-line, three-line, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Willingness and ability to travel at least 25% of the time
- Ability and willingness to respond to site emergencies as needed
- Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to frequently perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching approximately 75% of the time while on renewable power plants’ sites. Ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office environment.
- Walking: Ability to walk .25 to 1.5 miles per day, including across unpaved and rough surfaces when on wind farm sites
- Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or scheduled form
- Lifting: Ability to frequently lift items weighing up to 50 pounds and to occasionally jointly lift items weighing between 50 and 100 pounds
- Equipment: Ability and willingness to operate aerial and tele handing equipment
- Vision/Hearing: Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
- Tolerance to Extreme Weather Conditions: Ability to work in adverse weather conditions 25% of the time while on wind farm sites
- Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary
