In accordance with the organizational chart and overall plan of Vance-Granville Community College, the Program Head of Information Technology reports to the Department Chair of Business Technologies within the Business and Applied Technology and Public Service Division. The principal purpose of this position is to participate in and supervise the design, planning, organization, and continuous evaluation of the Information Technology program and its faculty as well as recruit students and build industry partnerships.
This position is assigned to the VGCC Main Campus in Henderson, North Carolina; although, some travel to other counties in the college’s service area is possible. Consistent with VGCC’s Teleworking Policy, this position is eligible for up to 3 days per week of telework after the first 6 months of employment in this position upon your supervisor’s approval.

Essential Duties

  • Assists in the design of the organizational structure and coordinates all instructional activities within the program to include but not be limited to:
  • Develops core course syllabi and ongoing maintenance to ensure that syllabi are current and forwarded to the Department Chair for approval and posting to the college’s network folder and the Adjunct Faculty Portal.
  • Prepares semester class schedules in collaboration with all constituents served.
  • Selects and requisitions textbooks and related materials for all campuses.
  • Initiates requisitions and accounts for supplies, materials, equipment and repairs to equipment used by the department at all campuses in collaboration with the appropriate Campus Dean, if applicable.
  • Maintains appropriate records on students and faculty supervised.
  • Makes recommendations to the Department Chair and the Academic/Campus Dean concerning the development and expansion of courses and/or the program and the supervision of any expansion.
  • Recommends new books, magazines, materials and equipment for use in the LRC when requested by the Director of the LRC.
  • Encourages and supports innovative teaching techniques among program faculty.
  • Coordinates and participates in activities with Student Affairs, Student Learning and Success, and College Recruiter in the recruitment, screening and selection of students for the program/department.
  • Assists in the selection, orientation, and supervision of new full-time and part-time faculty at all campus locations.
  • Maintains frequent contact with part-time instructors.
  • Regularly participates as a member of assigned institutional committees.
  • Maintains assigned teaching responsibilities.
  • Participates in coordinating, developing, and assessing Program Outcomes and Student Learning Outcomes and uses these results to make program improvements.
  • Serves as an advisor to students and provides a minimum of five posted office hours per week for student conferences. During registration these hours will be extended at the discretion of the Department Chair and/or Academic/Campus Dean.
  • Provides adequate coverage of scheduled classes in the absence of assigned instructors.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship with appropriate individuals and agencies outside of the College that serve the best interest of the program.
  • Completes appropriate faculty and staff evaluations and collaborates with campus deans to evaluate satellite faculty.
  • Engages in professional development.
  • Performs community service activities.
  • Experiments with new, innovative teaching techniques.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technology required by the program area and in administrative processes as required by the college.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Academic Dean.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree with 18 hours in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Networking, or a related field; degrees and hours must be from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Two years of teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in CompTia Network+, A+, Security+, Cisco
  • Course development experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • At least three years teaching experience preferred in a Community College or University setting
  • Programming experience with Swift, Python, Java, HTML, C++, and other commonly used programming languages.
  • Experience teaching Networking, Cyber Security, Programming, and Support in an online environment
  • A willingness to learn and certify in other technological areas as program changes and grows.

  • Lightwork that includes moving objects up to 30 pounds
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $61,500.00 - $85,000.00 per year
