Function: To provide labor intense services at SMS Group- Mobile facility.

Responsibilities

• To perform daily labor intense functions relating to the repair and maintenance of steel mill melting, casting, rolling, and finishing equipment.
• Clean, pressure wash, grind, sand, paint, scrape, shovel, soak parts in solvent, sweep, and buff: parts, assemblies, rolls, and any other items as designated by the immediate supervisor.
• Use on a daily basis: hand tools, power tools, pneumatics, hydraulics, scrapers, grinders, sanders, brooms, mops, shovels, solvent tank cleaners, and powered trucks as needed.
• |Each employee after properly trained are expected to operate any overhead crane |and be compliant under all OSHA and CMAA guidelines.
• Assist in maintenance and repair of equipment within the steel making facility, within caster containment, rolling mill equipment, meltshop areas, and finishing areas, and the facility in its entirety.
• Perform all function within an environment that is consistent with steel mills (i.e. dirty, dark, exposed to contact with grease, oils, scale, water, etc.) on an as needed basis to ensure operation and availability of the steel mill.
• Perform mechanical repairs/modifications within the SMS Group– Mobile facility, the steel mill in its entirety, and any other customer facility as directed by the immediate supervisor.
• Routinely repair/maintain SMS Group– Mobile facility machinery, tools, and equipment as directed by the immediate supervisor.
• Assemble, disassemble, repair, replace, and modify all parts as designated by the immediate supervisor, to any mechanical equipment within the employee’s ability.
• Perform welding, cutting, lancing, air arc, and deslagging functions as directed by the immediate supervisor.

Basic Job Requirements:

One (1) year certificate from technical school or two (2) years equivalent experience; previous experience working in the steel industry preferred.

AWS certification in GMAW, SMAW, TIG welding (6G) preferred.

Physical Requirements:

80% standing, 20% walking, 90% use of hands, extensive reaching, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 90 lbs., clear vision 20” or less with the ability to adjust, focus and bring objects in sharp focus.

Knowledge: Mechanical, pneumatics, hydraulics, basic millwright skills, rigging. AWS standards and codes, basic knowledge of material selection.

Skills: Installation, troubleshooting, repairing, equipment selection, testing, product inspection, equipment maintenance, mathematics, problem identification, reading comprehension, blueprint/schematic reading, welding, oxy-fuel cutting, plasma arc cutting, layout, advanced mathematics, geometry, physics.

Abilities: Manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm/hand
