We are seeking a qualified Surface Search/Navigation Radar Technician in Virginia Beach, VA.

MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE SECRET CLEARANCE

Position Description:

The Navigation Radar Technician will support the In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) for Surface Search and Navigation Radars in the areas of technical support, field change installations, operator/maintainer training, performance evaluation, technical documentation, maintenance procedures, and underway testing, and will assist fleet units in maintenance and troubleshooting. The new team member will serve as the ISEA’s Subject Matter Expert for the radar as part of direct fleet support responsibility and will document the results of maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem-resolution actions accomplished while onboard. The Navigation Radasr Technician will also provide distance support troubleshooting for fleet CASREPs and requests for technical assistance.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • The Navigation Radar Technician will support engineering efforts related to the design, testing, and analysis of radar upgrades or modifications
  • Provide operator/maintainer training to the ship’s force upon completion of new installations
  • Analyze fleet casualty reports to assist with troubleshooting, fault determination, and repair
  • Support technical documentation upgrades or modifications required as a result of system improvements
  • Install Field Changes in accordance with Navy shipboard installation processes
  • Assist in the development of Ship Installation Drawings (SIDs) and Ship Alteration Records (SAR), which reflect system installation plans and configurations
  • Prepare lab and classrooms spaces in support of radar upgrades (new acquisition and legacy systems) and modifications
  • Act as liaison with Regional Maintenance Centers (RMCs) to ensure proper processing of installation data and schedule requirements necessary for the unimpeded check-in processing of Alteration Installation Teams (AITs)
  • Perform post-installation System Operational Verification Test (SOVT) and On-the-Job Training (OJT)

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • The Navigation Radar Technician should have six years of experience
  • HS and Navy Radar NEC
  • Practical experience with training, preventative maintenance, technical documentation, parts support, technical reports, and documenting maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
  • Familiar with shipboard safety procedures, including electrical safety, electrical tag-outs, working procedures, hazardous material handling, and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Working knowledge of Change Requests & Engineering Change Proposals.
  • Familiar with Navy Logistics Support elements, including configuration management, onboard allowance, and supply support.
  • Interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Personal computer skills (competent with MS Office applications).

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Practical experience maintaining and troubleshooting shipboard radar systems in general (required), and AN/SPS-67, AN/SPS-73, or other surface search navigation radars in particular (desired)
  • Familiar with the US Navy installation planning process


Travel Requirements:

  • 25-30%, typically one to two-week visits to shipyards, naval bases, or land-based test sites
