Partner 22, Events, Investor Relations

Founded in Silicon Valley in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Andreessen Horowitz (known as "a16z") is a venture capital firm that backs bold entrepreneurs building the future through technology. We are stage agnostic: We invest in seed to venture to late-stage technology companies, across bio + healthcare, consumer, crypto, enterprise, fintech, games, and companies building toward American dynamism. a16z has $35B in assets under management across multiple funds.

We've established a team that is defined by respect for the entrepreneur and the company-building process; we know what it's like to be in the founder's shoes. We've invested in companies like Affirm, Airbnb, Coinbase, Databricks, Devoted Health, EQRx, Figma, GitHub, Instacart, OpenSea, Roblox, Stripe, and Substack. Our team is at the forefront of new technology, helping founders and their companies impact and change the world.

The Role

The Events Partner will manage events and experiences as a member of the a16z Investor Relations team. This role plays a critical role in crafting memorable and engaging experiences that drive powerful and lasting connections among our Limited Partners ("LPs") and our broader network.

The a16z IR team is dedicated to crafting an outstanding client experience for our LPs. Working across the firm's investment professionals, operating groups, finance, legal and compliance team members, you will curate investor relations activities of Andreessen Horowitz.

You will provide enhanced events focused support to the General Partners and external partners to ensure seamless experiences consistent with the Andreessen Horowitz brand and culture. You are someone who exemplifies doing first-class business in a first-class way.

To join our team, you should be excited to:

  • Plan, direct and execute a world class, white glove experience for our LPs. These can be in-person and virtual events, from small to large scale. This is inclusive of everything from workshops, networking events and dinners, to large-scale annual summits, roadshows and sponsored events. When appropriate, it may involve managing and directing an agency in partnership as well as a small team over time.
  • Own our annual, 1,000+ person LP summit, which is the "Super Bowl" of IR events. This involves creating a sophisticated, white glove, high production value experience for our LPs that engenders a positive long term relationship
  • Own operational logistics for events; source and manage relevant external venues and vendors as needed for both in-person and virtual event production.
  • Build events communication campaigns and marketing collateral; you will track registrations and engagements and utilize data to modify your outreach, engagement and interactions accordingly.
  • Provide support and guidance to creative teams for event marketing collateral and premium branded goods.
  • Engage with both internal and external events speakers to coordinate prep calls, rehearsals, and ensure they are fully prepared.
  • Craft an event-in-a-box playbook and resource center to scale events with our growing LP base.
  • Own systems management and reporting for team dashboards and platforms. You will conduct regular reporting of engagement activities; produce post-event analysis, budget evaluations, and participant feedback for internal partners; incorporate lessons learned into future plans.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate must bring a high level of ethical, intellectual, professional and personal values to our team including:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience producing extraordinary world-class large and small scale events in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in tech coupled with the poise and presence working with senior executives in a highly cross-functional and collaborative environment. Events such as large-scale enterprise customer appreciation and/or President Club events are examples.
  • Proven track record of leading high-quality, large scale, memorable branded experiences while staying within budget.
  • Comfort and confidence with regular business travel and site visits, strong judgment on defining and delivering the highest caliber experiences.
  • Ability to successfully participate in cross-functional team event execution from idea through execution and post-production analysis. You feel comfortable collaborating closely with editorial and communications teams as part of coordinated marketing efforts
  • Experience and familiarity with virtual event production and platforms/tools including Zoom Webinar.
  • Familiar with using Salesforce, Marketo, Qualtrics, Wordpress, Splash, Canva and other similar tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively troubleshoot and resolve last minute needs in fast-paced, high-visibility situations.
  • High EQ; able to persuade, influence, and build trust at the executive level.
  • Strong partnership skills - we are connectors at our core and find joy in building trusted connections within the firm, within our portfolio, and with the industries in which we operate.
  • Demonstrated ability for accuracy and thoroughness; someone with an eye for detail and an appreciation of nuance, with outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effectively project-manage cross functional initiatives; you enjoy thinking about organizational processes, internal communications, and creating consistently high-end experiences. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and translating goals into meaningful plans and metrics.
  • Comfort, desire, and confidence with regular business travel and site visits (approximately 10-25% travel).

Ideal Candidate Skills

  • You have a sense of urgency and value the courtesy of professional responsiveness (this is super important as speed is a form of client service).
  • You are able to adapt on the fly and handle unforeseen developments with ease. You are also able to do this without compromising attention to detail and quality.
  • You are a "measure twice, cut once" type of person – you are comfortable and have a preference for asking more questions upfront to avoid an oversight down the road.
  • You strive to be an enabler who gives the team maximum leverage - there is no job too big, no job too small.
  • You do what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it.
  • You continually search for new ideas and means of improvement.
  • Most importantly, you take your work seriously but not yourself too seriously : )

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $225,000-$262,500, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave. #LI-Remote
