DESCRIPTION

The UC San Diego Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI) advances scientific discovery to improve health - bringing discoveries from the lab to the bedside. ACTRI was established to provide education, training and infrastructure for clinical research in the San Diego area. It encompasses four hospital systems, two universities and four biomedical research organizations. It receives partial funding from a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the NIH, National Center for Advancing Translational Science.

ACTRI is home to the Center for Community Health (CCH), a multi-disciplinary group with a mission to transform health and wellness in diverse communities by improving health equity. CCH programs and initiatives focus on advancing innovative, community-informed, community-driven health research and capacity- building, particularly in the binational and southern California region. The Center for Community Health has a history of over 30 years working in, with, and for communities in the San Diego region via multisector and multi-level approaches that bring together community partners and key stakeholders to solve complex systemic problems.

The Refugee Health Unit is housed under the Center for Community Health and was launched in 2017 in response to the growing number of refugees in San Diego, which is home to the largest refugee population in California to date. The Afghan Refugee School Impact (ASRI) and Afghan Youth Mentoring (AYM) program within CCH Refugee Health Unit is newly funded by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) through the 2022 Afghanistan Supplemental Appropriations Act to provide support services to youth and families from Afghanistan.

The program aims to engage and connect youth and families with available resources to support academic and social integration and education across four key program areas: 1) Early Childhood Development, 2) Family Engagement, 3) Mental Health and Well-Being, and 4) School Enrollment and Support. UCSD-CCH will oversee administration of these funds statewide with regional lead agencies and local community-based organizations (CBOs) who will deliver and coordinate culturally responsive services in regions with high numbers of newlyarrived refugees from Afghanistan.

Under the oversight of the ASRI/AYM Associate Director, the Project Coordinator supports the administration and implementation of the ASRI/AYM Program. The Project Coordinator is also be responsible for supporting the Associate Director with budget management, program and contract monitoring, data collection and analysis, reporting, and coordinating regular communications with program partners and key stakeholders.

Uses professional public educational program concepts in the completion of public education assignments. Works on programs and needs assessments that are of moderate scope and complexity. Modifies existing public educational programs or develops segments of larger programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training.

  • Knowledge of departmental and organization policies and procedures; knowledge of educational program content and objectives.

  • Working knowledge of delivering public educational programs.

  • Working knowledge of current public education programs and trends.

  • Working skills to produce and deliver programs.

  • Strong knowledge of conducting needs assessment. Experience in monitoring and evaluation, including data collection, tracking, compilation, monitoring, and analysis.

  • Good analytical skills to understand how business needs can be addressed through the design and delivery of training programs. Aptitude in problem-solving and ability to develop integrated, creative solutions.

  • Excellent reading, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence. Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.

  • Commitment to advancing immigrant and refugee equity as well as addressing disparities, racial justice, and disproportionality.

  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills, including the ability to motivate.

  • Demonstrated experience in program/operations management for large scale initiatives.

  • Experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders across multiple sectors, including community-based organizations, service providers, professional associations and businesses, media, and government stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of common computer applications such as Microsoft and Google Suites.

  • Understanding of budget processes and experience with budget monitoring and invoicing.

  • Experience developing reports and presentations for various audiences.

  • Experience coordinating and facilitating effective meetings and communications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual language skills are highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of and experience with community engagement and social programming preferred, including immigration and refugee programing/policy and refugee resettlement processes.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health preferred.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be willing and able to travel.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Fluency in English and Somali preferred.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $37,900 - $85,300 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $18.15 - $40.85

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
