We currently have an opportunity for a Psychiatric Registered Nurse. Under general supervision, to provide professional nursing care to emotionally disturbed and/or mentally ill patients for Behavioral Health and Recovery Services; to work with clinical and case management staff to coordinate care and assist in treatment plans for clients; and to perform related work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates with the interdisciplinary team in specialized patient care activities Provides general nursing support for the program in collaboration with the physician and other staff to perform patient-centric, trauma informed, safe, effective, timely, and efficient patient care
  • Administer medications as needed Reviewing care plans and providing input as needed
  • Acting as a liaison with doctors, social workers, and other professionals Provides encouragement support and reinforces positive behavior with a therapeutic, calm approach while maintaining therapeutic boundaries, setting limits, and utilizing de-escalation techniques, including physical intervention skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to identify and record relevant information for the most common diagnostic groups
  • Effectively establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and families Utilizes Trauma Informed Care philosophies when interacting with patients and families.
  • Leads, or co-leads and/or reinforces teaching of symptom management, including relaxation techniques, anger management, therapeutic goal setting, problem solving, coping skills, etc. Performs admission, discharge, and transfer process
  • Utilizes therapeutic, Trauma Informed intervention techniques before, during and after the time of crisis to support safe patient de-escalation Assists with physical crisis intervention techniques and physical restraint during specific crisis situations per policy
  • The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN.
  • The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail and interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills and knowledge of word processing Demonstrated ability to work effectively with men and women of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment.
  • Provide and ensure the complete service delivery in a healthy and safe manner that supports Broadstep’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Ensure the integration and implementation of all Broadstep and subsidiary policies, procedures, state-specific regulatory requirements, contract stipulations and accreditation standards, including but not limited to:

o Knowledge that abuse, (physical, sexual, verbal/psychological), neglect, exploitation and misappropriation and other code of ethics violations are against the law and company code of conduct. The team member must be able to implement all facets of the company’s Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation and Misappropriation policy, including the responsibility of being a mandatory reporter. Per state requirements and company policy, team members will report immediately to the state licenser, appropriate company personnel and external contacts, and they will fully participate in all stages of an investigation pertaining to suspected abuse by team members, parents, and others. Additionally, the team member must comply with any external (County, State or Federal) investigation or inspection. Team Members in IL and NJ are required to contact state reporting agencies immediately. o Knowledge of all individual rights and the ability to identify, intervene and report appropriately when observing a violation.

o Knowledge of the confidentiality policy and HIPAA laws, and always apply the practices governing those policies and legislation.

o Knowledge of the subsidiary-implemented crisis intervention programs and be able to implement all protocols as identified in the individual’s treatment plan. o Knowledge of all company transportation procedures and operates all personal and company vehicles in accordance with those policies.

o Knowledge of all company crisis/emergency plans and applies that knowledge during each test drill and actual crisis.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management. Requirements: Completion of accredited nursing program Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred, will consider Associate Degree of Science with adolescent psychiatric nursing care experience Minimum of 1 years’ experience working with children and/or adolescents in a psychiatric care setting Current and un-encumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of employment BLS certification preferred Trauma informed training preferred Crisis management training preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Continually remain active, alert, and able to respond to all scenarios. Possess the ability to perform and personally apply approved crisis intervention program and CPR/First Aid skills in their entirety in trainings and actual events. Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl and exposed to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials, taste, or smell, wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather). Frequently required to stand and walk. Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity and to talk or hear. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
