The Office of Housing & Dining in Student & Community Engagement has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Residence Life Coordinator.

Nature of Work:

Residence Life Coordinators provide leadership to all students and student staff within a residential community of 500-700 students. The Residence Life Coordinator supports the student experience by leading the planning and implementation of the Lynx Living Residential Curriculum alongside the Residence Life Team in Housing & Dining. The Residence Life Coordinator is responsible for the selection, training, mentoring, supervision, and evaluation of up to 15 student Resident Assistants, up to one lead student staff member, and possibly one student Office Assistant i. In addition, Residence Life Coordinators advise a Hall Council – a student governance group for the residence hall – with the possibility of co-advising a campus Residence Hall Association. Using the Lynx Living Pillars of connectedness, community responsibility, cultural humility, and leadership development, Residence Life Coordinators assist in the development and management of safe and inclusive communities where students can fully engage with both living and learning experiences. Residence Life Coordinators accomplish this through engagement planning and implementation, student support, student conduct education, student staff supervision and coaching, crisis response and management, and administrative work.

The Residence Life Coordinator receives supervision from the Associate Director of Residence Life & Residential Conduct and is a member of the Residence Life Team in the Office of Housing & Dining.

The Residence Life Coordinator is a 12-month, 40-hour per week, live-in staff position that will require evening and weekend engagement and commitments. This position serves on a 24/7 on-call rotation providing crisis response to all residence halls on campus.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Manages a residence hall community of 500-700, primarily undergraduate, students living in varied types of room and/or suite-style spaces.
  • Hires, trains, supervises, coaches, and evaluates up to 17 Student Staff Members, including up to 15 Resident Assistants, one lead staff member, and one Office Assistant.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates the Lynx Living Residential Curriculum, providing engagement opportunities for students to develop within the pillars of connectedness, community responsibility, cultural humility, and leadership development.
  • Facilitates individual bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with each direct report and weekly staff meetings with all student staff in the residence hall
  • Focuses on relationship building and student interaction on a daily basis with hall residents.
  • Serves as a visible and accessible resource in the community for student and family interaction, support, and development.
  • Promotes an environment in the residence halls that supports the mission of the university, the Division of Student and Community Engagement, and the Office of Housing & Dining.
  • Recruits and advises Hall Council student leaders in their advocacy for and engagement of the residence hall community.
  • Partners with Operations Coordinator, Facilities Management staff, and Housekeeping staff in promoting and maintaining a physical residence hall environment that is safe, accessible, functional, well-maintained, and conducive to living and learning. In accomplishing this, performs regular inspections of common spaces and oversees move-in and move-out inspection processes for assigned residence hall.
  • Facilitate student connection and referrals to other University and campus offices for personal and academic support.
  • Promotes student identity development through culturally competent support, education, and intervention; on-going engagement efforts; and partnerships with and referrals to Center of Identity & Inclusion and affiliated offices.
  • Partners with Office of Case Management, Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards, Student & Community Counseling Center, and Office of Equity to provide input and follow-up related to on-going cases involving students living in assigned residence hall.
  • Works with Residence Life team to partner with other student-facing offices on both in-hall engagement initiatives and campus-wide engagements.
  • Serves in a designated on-call rotation. Residence Life Coordinators are on-call approximately 4-5 weeks throughout each semester, including summer and break periods, responding to and managing crisis, emergency, and elevated situations as needed.
  • Educates students on the Student Code of Conduct and Housing & Dining Resident Handbook; serves as a Conduct Educator per the Student Code of Conduct, overseen by the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards, facilitating conduct conferences with student alleged of violating the Code of Conduct or Resident Handbook Policies & Procedures.
  • Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) per the Clery Act and a Responsible Employee per the CU Denver Discrimination & harassment policy.
  • Manages and, when beyond student staff scope, mediates interpersonal conflicts, primarily roommate/suitemate conflicts.
  • Manages occupancy of assigned residence hall in partnership with the Senior Student Services Coordinator through regular audits of rooms moves, inspections, and keys.
  • Coordinates the day-to-day operations of assigned residence hall throughout each semester and the opening/closing of the hall at the beginning and end of each semester.
  • Complete regular administrative tasks such as filing, auditing, reporting, communicating, and other office-related work.
  • Utilizes software systems such as StarRez, Maxient, SALTO, Microsoft Office Suite, and others to perform administrative functions of the position.
  • Participates in on-going meetings and trainings with Coordinator, Residence Life, Housing & Dining, and Student & Community Engagement teams.
  • Supervises up to 17 Student Staff Members, including up to 15 Resident Assistants, one lead staff member, and one Office Assistant.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific years of experience.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience working residence life, student/academic support, student conduct, event planning, or related experience.

Conditions of Employment: Must be willing and able to:

  • Be on-call, approximately every 4 weeks throughout each semester, including summer and break periods.
  • Live in provided apartment.

Note: This role has been designated by the University of Colorado as an essential services position, to ensure the health, safety and security of student residents. The incumbent is required to respond after hours during emergencies and report to work for regular assigned shifts during emergency campus closures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working in Housing or Residence Life in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, StarRez, Maxient, or Salto.
  • Experience supervising staff.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position has been established at $48,004.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
