ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES are as follows: although this is not an all inclusive list and additional duties may be added as necessary to meet the needs of the organization. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty.

Closely monitors status of patient under his/her care. Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies healthcare team as needed of patient’s condition and reactions to drugs, treatment and significant incidents.

Exams and assesses condition of the patient by taking temperature, pulse, blood pressure and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal.

Demonstrate appropriate assessment and management of pain during and immediately following procedure(s).

Assess patient chart for appropriate pre-procedure data and presence of implants.

Assess cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, renal and peripheral vascular status. Documents findings and reports abnormal or out of range results to physician and starts appropriate intervention.

Interprets patient data and hemodynamic responses during pre, intra and post cath. Documents patient outcomes pre, intra and post procedure.

Positions patient appropriately on table for different procedures. Evaluate and ensure procedure positioning maintains optimal skin protection for skin integrity.

Recognize and implement nursing intervention for contrast reaction.

Demonstrates appropriate precaution for risk (air embolization, catheter rupture, over volume injection, electrical leakage)

Responds to life savings situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol for prompt control of changes in patients physical condition.

Able to perform the techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation accurately and effectively.

Establishes a compassionate environment acknowledging and attending to physiological and psychological needs.

Assures quality care and maintains patient confidence by continual awareness and promptly attending to patients’ comfort and safety needs.

Educates patient on procedures and treatments to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.

Administers prescribed medications, intravenous solutions and treatments; place orders for medication from the pharmacy.

Maintain accountability for controlled substances; inventory medications at the beginning and end of the shift with another registered nurse; immediately notifies supervisor of discrepancies.

Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients. Maintains patient clinical files; keeps chart updated; documents appropriately.

Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy, including patient and family instruction.

Keeps abreast of changing techniques in critical care nursing and maintains a high level of expertise in critical care.

Supports the hospitals medical supply system; follows procedures for patient charge items.

Floating among various clinical service units, where qualified and competent is expected and may be routine when there is no critical care patient in house.

Pay: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
