Key Responsibilities:

Operations Analytics

The Operations Analytics team empowers stakeholders with timely and relevant data driven insights to help run a more customer centric and dependable airline.

Job overview and responsibilities

Responsible for partnering with Tech Ops Reliability, Planning, Ground Equipment, Supply Chain, Maintenance and AirOps in improving business decisions by turning data into information and information into insight, then implementing those insights back into United's operation. In partnership with Tech Ops Analytics responsible creating a governed connected maintenance data fabric, in identification of key business KPIs, understanding trends and drivers, building golden signals to predict demand and supply analytics within Tech Ops landscape inclusive of reliability, planning and execution. Collaborates, supplements and augments Tech Ops business and analytics teams in this capacity.

  • Lead a team of 3-8 big data analysts, data scientists by guiding them on business processes, data analytics, predictive modeling, and turning data into actionable stories
  • Build strong partnerships with Tech Ops business (reliability, supply chain, maintenance execution, planning) and stakeholder (analytics, AirOps) organizations
  • In partnership with Tech Ops analytics and Tech Ops business, identify key business input metrics, understand relevant trends and drivers, predict outcomes and collaboratively implement solutions targeting better operational performance using data analysis, data mining, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques
  • In partnership with Tech Ops analytics, create a connected governed fabric to enable all spectrum analytics for Tech Ops and to support value-added use cases towards better Tech Ops performance
  • Complete adhoc analyses as needed or short projects as requested by upper management timely and with quality. Build and deliver presentations to all levels of leadership to communicate useful outcomes with easy to interpret visualization and practical recommendations
  • Collaborate with Tech Ops analytics and frequently communicate within Tech Ops to ensure consistency, satisfactory completion and sustainability of solutions
  • Seeks Tech Ops business and stakeholder feedback and find ways to continuously improve
  • Provide leadership development to build high caliber leaders who excel in coaching and feedback, change management, leadership of influence, customer service, application and activation of analytics who create significant positive impact in United’s bottom-line

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Engineering or quantitative field
  • 3 or more years of experience leading professional teams to build large-scale analytics models
  • At least 1 year of managerial/supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to influence business strategy with application of analytics
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience at application of successive levels of quantitative and analytical fields e.g. IE, OR, Statistics, ML/AI, financial modeling etc
  • Comfort prioritizing several projects simultaneously
  • Experience taking projects from the exploratory phase to implementation
  • Understanding, quantifying, and solving complex airline operational issues
  • Strong analytical ability, application of analytical and pro-active thinking to solution of a business problem to ensure practical, robust, appropriate, value-add business solutions
  • Knowledge/familiarity of using and/or driving work on Big Data ecosystems
  • Ability to analyze complex, high-volume, high-dimensional data from various sources to highlight previously unknown patterns and relationships
  • Demonstrates flexibility, creativity and innovation in generating solutions and recommendations
  • Aptitude communicating complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
  • Strong interpersonal and people skills; excellent consulting and communication skills
  • Adept at building relationships required for reliable airline operations
  • Able to adapt to changing business environment
  • Able to influence business strategy and act as a thought partner
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree
  • Tech Ops experience, or in-depth experience or end to end understanding of at least one business area from the following NP, NOC and Crew/Inflight
