Introduction


The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Environmental Management is recruiting to fill a Senior Water Supply Specialist - Project vacancy. The position location is at Central Office, Madison. There is an opportunity to telework for up to 60% of the workweek dependent on work needs and DNR telework policies.

This is a Project position that will be expected to end on September 30, 2026. Project positions are eligible for benefits including health insurance, but the incumbent does not attain permanent civil service status.

Position Summary


This position is responsible for coordinating and implementing the emerging contaminants program of the Public Drinking Water Section. Activities include: development and implementation of public water supply program objectives, preparation of annual program plans and progress reports, interpretation of federal regulations and direct translation of federal rules into state codes, statewide coordination of Safe Drinking Water program monitoring requirements (including proper locations and frequency), review of Safe Drinking Water Program required water quality data, and statewide and interdepartmental coordination of program activities. This position is expected to work collaboratively with experienced program staff when making decisions regarding water system regulation and oversight.

Salary Information


Starting pay is $28 - $34/hour for this position ($58,240 - $70,720 annually). Pay on appointment for current or former state employees is based on the State Compensation Plan.

This position is in Pay Schedule / Range 15-03. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Job Details


The position location is at Central Office, Madison, however some occasional statewide travel may be required for meetings.

Employment will require selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications


Please describe the below qualifications in your resume and letter of qualifications to be considered for this position:

Required qualifications for this position include experience in all of the following:

  • Experience and/or training in the principles of chemistry, water chemistry and/or geology
  • Experience in data management and coordination, including the use of databases.

Best-qualified applicants will also have one of the following preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with drinking water system contaminants, treatment, wells, and/or distribution systems.
  • Experience and/or training in microbiology, emerging contaminants, sanitation, and/or public health.
  • Experience interpreting and applying state and federal requirements related to the Safe Drinking Water Act.
