The Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC) Threat Modeling Center (TMC) at Northrop Grumman Space Systems is looking for you to join our team as a Senior Principal Engineer Systems out of Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.

The Threat Modeling Center (TMC) is responsible for development of models and simulations (M&S) used to stimulate element models of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS), including kinematic missile modeling, IR signature modeling, data production/analysis activities, and maintenance/sustainment activities for the entire TMC software baseline. The TMC is a cornerstone element to the Specialized Warfighter Development Contract (SWDC), as part of the MDA Engineering Directorate (DE) Task Order. The TMC is responsible for the development and delivery of high fidelity threat modeling products in support of the MDA’s BMDS.

Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Gain experience with threat model phenomenology with a focus on IR signatures
  • Research into infrared (IR) signature predictions and simulation models
  • Delegation of TMC data production needs in support of MDA Ground Test modeling and simulation
  • Project management of Joint Threat Modeling Program (JTMP) requirements and deliverables in close coordination with the Intelligence Community stakeholders and MDA Management team
  • Coordinate with TMC Engineering for software requirements of threat modeling tools
  • Ensure transparency into the upcoming work of the M&S products
  • Regular communication with stakeholders to understand requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • 9 Years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with Ph.D.
  • Experience with scripting/automation languages such as Python, Bash, or Matlab
  • Ability to work independently and in groups equally well; must be a self-starter
  • Excellent time management and schedule estimation skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail is necessary
  • Experience with technical analysis of modeling and simulation data sets
  • Experience with validation and verification of modeling and simulation data
  • Ability to analyze and correlate large data sets of technical information
  • Active DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret
  • Must possess good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical planning, project management and project scheduling experience
  • Experience with JANNAF plume codes for predictive signatures (SOCRATES-P, PERCORP, VIPER, etc..)
  • Must be results focused, work well within a dynamic environment, be self-motivated, able to work in a team environment, and be able to produce reliable products and documentation within established deadlines
  • Understanding of Modeling and Simulation (M&S), specifically for ballistic missile systems
  • Knowledge of the flight characteristics, motion, atmospheric dynamics, and missile performance parameters necessary to model ballistic missiles is highly desirable. Strong math, physics or engineering background is preferred.
  • Knowledge of software design and performance in IT infrastructures, networks and cloud solutions
  • Experience with Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence)
  • Current DoD Top Secret clearance with current SSBI (SCI eligibility)


Salary Range: $117,900 USD - $176,900 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
