About the Department

The Event Development and Production department develops and produces NYRR events from concept all the way through execution in alignment with NYRR’s mission. The TCS New York City Marathon, United Airlines NYC Half and the Royal Bank of Canada Brooklyn Half are just a few of the 40+ adult events and 30+ Rising New York Road Runner youth events produced by the team each year. The team is responsible for core elements of the operations including physical site management, timing and scoring operations, volunteer management, hospitality and special events, safety and security, management of our warehouse and all race collateral, city and state agency relationship management, and permitting.

The Youth Events team oversees the development and execution of over 40 Rising New York Road Runners events per year, including events associated with our Five-Borough series and the TCS New York City Marathon, each serving 100 – 2,500 or more participants; and the support of other youth and community-based efforts. All youth events and activities are FREE and support the Rising New York Road Runners program as well as individual parents in the area.

About the Position

The core responsibility of this position is to provide on-site logistics assistance to more than 30 youth events per year, each serving 100-2,500 or more participants.

Job Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties):

• Perform specific operational duties, as assigned at each event. Duties may include t-shirt, ribbon, or water distribution, course supervision, officials’ assistance and clerking, registration, results, marshaling, and crowd management.
• Support with youth activities based of the Rising New York Road Runners philosophy (training will be provided).
• Help with the set-up and breakdown of the event.

Education & Certifications:

• 4-year degree in Hospitality, Events, or related field preferred

Skills and Attributes:

• Ability to follow directions and execute them properly
• Ability to lift and move event equipment as needed
• Initiative to work independently while simultaneously maintaining a team focus
• Ability to relate to and work with diverse populations is essential
• Heart, humor, and a commitment to our Youth Services mission
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team-oriented environment
• Experience in running at any level, including recreational, is preferred

Other Requirements:

• Travel frequently to various locations throughout NYC on day of events
• Work several weekend days throughout the year with early morning start times and/or several weekday early mornings from March-June, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
