SALARY: $5,282 per month at 1.0 FTE | SR24 | BU13

LOCATION: Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital – Waimea, Kaua’i, Hawaii

This position is located in the Dietary / Nutritional Services department at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region. KVMH, along with Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH) and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, which consists of The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalāheo, The Specialty Clinic at Kalāheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po’ipū, and The Clinic at Kapa’a, are all part of a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

The Dietary Services unit provides healthful and attractive food to the patients and employees of the hospital. This position may be responsible for consults with attending physicians concerning the dietary needs of the patients. This position also teaches patients with special diet problems and visits patients at the hospital to be sure they are getting adequate nourishment.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Dietitian V is primarily responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and administering dietetic food services operations, to meet the needs of all patients and employees of the Kauai Region. This includes consulting with the Cook IVs (Food Services Supervisor) concerning the performance of food services personnel, and the ordering of food, supplies, and equipment for the section. Dietitian V is also involved in providing clinical dietetic services, which includes both clinical and patient counseling/education services; and performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a course of study approved by the American Dietetic Association, including the successful completion of a dietetic internship, or other equivalent clinical component approved by the Association.

Specialized Experience: Two (2) years of professional dietetic or nutrition experience that provided the employee with a full professional understanding of the theories of dietetic therapy and their application in the maintenance, improvement, and/or recovery of good health. At least one (1) year of experience must have been comparable to the next lower level in this series

Licensure: Current, valid driver’s license preferred.

Certification: Must be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration from the American Dietetic Association.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position. Carry weight up to 50 pounds. Climb ladders to access areas that need to be cleaned; safely work at heights ups to 12 feet and not to exceed 20 feet.

COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation. After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
