Offering more than 100 certificate, associate and bachelor’s degree programs, Daytona State College (DSC) has responded to the education and workforce training needs in our region for more than 60 years. The college enrolls nearly 25,000 students annually at its seven instructional sites, with graduates serving in critical fields including health care, emergency services, business, education, hospitality, engineering, technology and more.

We currently have an opportunity to join our team of talented and diverse Faculty and Staff as a Manager I.

Required Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor's degree in education, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field. This position also requires two (2) years of classroom teaching, advising, or related experience, as well as extensive work experience in an academic environment including: Teaching, academic counseling, recruiting, and advising diverse populations of students.

Desired Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with non-traditional or disadvantaged students.

Working Hours: Work hours may vary. Evening and weekend hours are required as needed.

Please note: This position will be based at the Flagler and Daytona Campus of Daytona State College, but responsibilities of this position will require travel to area middle and high schools in Flagler County for student service delivery.

The salary is $42,500.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Presentations in middle schools, high schools, and virtually up to four days per week, for the purpose of guiding students through the process of college admissions, financial aid, course selection, financial literacy, career research and standardized test preparation. Maintain contact with all assigned participants; conduct need assessments; develop Individual Graduation and Accountability Plan (IGAP) with assigned participants and documents progress; provide personal, academic, and career counseling and advising; collect documents, and monitor academic progress reports.
  • Plan and coordinate in-person and virtual workshops, college tours, field trips and other events in accordance with program objectives. Assist with Competitive Preference Priority initiatives including Career Readiness, Financial Literacy, Academic Literacy (Book Club) and STEM programs as required to meet program objectives.
  • Create, update, and adapt presentations using PowerPoint and other software. Continually update lessons to provide students the most current information to meet program objectives.
  • Maintain a record system of assigned students and areas of responsibility, including student records and sessions with students. Maintain and update a database system in a timely manner as outlined by the Project Director.
  • Review and process student applications, educational records/transcripts, make recommendations and assist in the development of curriculum.
  • Assist with implementation of program recruitment activities including personal visits and follow-up, staffing booths at events or fairs, middle and high school visits and assist in mailing initiatives.
  • Interact with middle and high school career and guidance counselors, community-based agencies, and human services providers. Develop referral networks with outside agencies.
  • Attend staff, divisional or other meetings as directed in order to exchange information and/or give input. Attend professional development webinars and/or conferences to improve and maintain professional skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Strong student service, organizational, presentation and communication skills.
  • Exercise good judgment and communicate effectively in both oral and written format and efficiently use technology in both virtual and in-person situations.
  • Skilled in operations of Microsoft Office and management of database systems for documenting counseling/advising and reporting performance outcomes.
  • Ability to follow complex directions, handle multiple priorities, solve problems, and act independently to plan, initiate and complete assignments.
  • Take direction, as well as work effectively and professionally on their own and in a team environment.
