JOB DESCRIPTION
Your Role

The Pharmacist, Consultant – Drug Utilization Review is primarily responsible for supporting the Blue Shield of California Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee process and supports the clinical components of the Pharmacy Services Benefit Management Drug Authorization Program by ensuring that evidence based clinical decisions of the Blue Shield of California Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee are implemented operationally in order to provide a quality, cost effective pharmacy benefit.

Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Support the operational and clinical implementation of medication policies for drugs in the pharmacy benefit, for both Commercial and Medicare lines of business
  • Provide pharmacist support for the drug prior authorization program by providing clinical expertise to Prior Authorization technician team to ensure review of prior authorization requests within all regulatory required time frames
  • Ensure compliance with various regulatory and quality accreditation requirements around drug utilization management in order to support safe, efficacious, and cost-effective prescribing
  • Provide clinical pharmacy support of Health Management Programs and Medication Therapy Management for enrolled members
  • Provide pharmacotherapy expertise for the pharmacy program by supporting the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, drug formulary, prior authorization, drug utilization review and physician reporting programs
  • Serves as an educational resource to internal and external constituents regarding the Blue Shield drug formulary, medication policies and appropriate drug use
  • Provides support for the development and maintenance of an internal Blue Shield Drug Formulary for all product lines
  • Provides oversight support to the AMCP accredited BSC Pharmacy Residency program

To ensure team regulatory compliance with prior authorization turnaround times, hours for this position will include working at least two weekends per month (both Saturday and Sunday).


QUALIFICATIONS
Your Knowledge and Experience
  • Requires a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree
  • Requires a currently active and unrestricted California Registered Pharmacist (RPh) license
  • Requires at least 2 years of experience in clinical pharmacy
  • Thorough clinical knowledge regarding therapeutic use of drugs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with computers and related software applications

Pay Range:

The pay range for this role is: $ 118800.00 to $ 178200.00 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.

Physical Requirements:

Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Due to the current public health emergency in California, Blue Shield employees are almost all working remotely. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
