Telework is available, but the hired candidate must reside in the state of Iowa and should be aware that the position will require some time in the Des Moines office.

The Iowa Department of Human Services is currently seeking to hire a Social Worker 6 who will be responsible for multiple activities centered on Dependent Adult Protection.

Duties include planning, directing, and administering the Department’s policy and procedure regarding Dependent Adult Abuse and Assessment. Tasks include but are not limited to revising and developing Administrative Rules and employee manual in a timely manner; providing complex consultative services to the Department’s service areas, Field Operations Support Unit, and contractors; authoring procurement documents and contracts; monitoring program performance through compliance and data reports; and making recommendations based on compliance and data reports. This position will have a key role in executing and managing state and federal grants by ensuring reporting requirements are met and related programming is implemented.

As a policy member for the Dependent Adult Abuse Program, this position is responsible for coordinating and assuring conformance with policy and code requirements pertaining to confidentiality of dependent adult abuse information, providing guidance and consultation on single point of access automated record check system (SING) access requests per Code of Iowa, preparing data to be used on the analysis of program goals and policies, and providing consultation.

The SW6 will meet with internal and external stakeholders and represent the Department on various committees and workgroups. Responsibilities may include responding to requests for information from the legislature, stakeholders, and the public; assisting with the development of budget proposals; and assisting with monitoring and implementing an Operational Plan.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to independently prioritize tasks and not only work on multiple projects simultaneously, but also be able to provide status updates on projects at a moment’s notice. Must have the ability to report for work regularly and on time, follow instructions and directives, and build positive relationships with others.

Domicile location is flexible. Telework is available with negotiable in-person days in Des Moines on the beautiful Capitol Complex, after training is complete. Flexibility in the daily start and end times.

280 Human/Social Services Programs
6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both directly related to human/social services. Experience generally obtained from either some level of government organization or a non-profit organization delivering these services. Must demonstrate exposure to the basic concepts of human/social services and related policies and procedures. Programs include those traditionally under the purview of the Department of Human Services, such as but not limited to:

  • Child and family welfare
  • Medicaid
  • Entitlement programs
  • Income maintenance
  • Mental health
  • Development disabilities
  • Child support recovery
AND

564 Government Regulation and Accountability Applicant should demonstrate a minimum of 6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in the area of managing state or federal governmental regulations and implementing accountability provisions.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university and the equivalent of six years of full-time experience in a social work capacity in a public or private agency;

OR
a Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited four year college or university and the equivalent of five years of full-time experience in a social work capacity in a public or private agency;
OR
a Master's degree in social work from an accredited college or university and the equivalent of three years of full-time experience in a social work capacity in a public or private agency;
OR
an equivalent combination of graduate education in the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university and qualifying experience up to a maximum of thirty semester hours for one year of the required experience;
OR
employees with current continuous experience having earned their equivalent full-time social work experience with the Iowa Department of Human Services may qualify with one year less of the required experience.
