Arista Networks is a fast-growing, multi-award-winning company that has pioneered and delivered software-driven cloud networking solutions for large data center storage and computing environments.
Looking for someone who can work on-site in HQ (3-5 days/week) to help with specific lab work. The following abilities would be required:
- Perform first-level hardware diagnostics, fixes, and maintenance:
- understand the basics of server hardware (CPU models, chipsets, memory), specifically Supermicro systems
(note that these are very similar to plain PCs) - understand BIOS settings and interpret/follow up on POST codes
- disk maintenance [very frequent]
- diagnose the state of bad disks: interpret SMART data, run tests like bad block scans
- swap bad HDD and SSDs out for replacements
- swap/upgrade disks (HDD <-> SSD, install SSD sleds)
- memory (DIMM) maintenance: determine & swap out bad DIMMs [rare]
- diagnose general server hardware issues:
- follow up on server crashes reported by users
- follow up on hardware issues flagged in system logs, IPMI event logs
- diagnose server boot and other issues (with a crash cart and IPMI)
- understand the basics of server hardware (CPU models, chipsets, memory), specifically Supermicro systems
- Install (rack) and cable/connect new servers
- mostly Ethernet cabling, but also serial port connections
- Install (provision) new servers using sw-infra tooling (dcp and svp)
- Debug server connection issues:
- determine and fix cabling problems (wrong ports server or switch side, bad cables)
- verify/fix switch port configuration issues [rare, as long as installed by automation]
- Install/configure/provision some servers
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering /Technical certification or equivalent job experience.
- 4 plus years of experience working as a System Admin.
- Basic network troubleshooting skills - DNS/DHCP/VLAN
- Linux OS administration skills
Nice to have: Automated server bring-up and provisioning experience (Ansible/Kickstart/PXE boot) and automation experience with python.
Additional Information
The new hire base pay for this role has a salary range of $85,000 -$160,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including skills, qualifications, relevant experience, and US location. The salary range provided reflects the base salary and in addition may also be eligible for discretionary Arista bonuses, commissions, equity, and benefits including medical, dental, vision, well-being, tax savings, and income protection.
